Wat is Dirty Down?

AGEING SPRAYS

USING AGEING SPRAYS
GENERAL SPRAYING
Hold can approximately 300mm away from the surface to be sprayed and depress the button to release the spray. To obtain an even covering, move your hand in a continuous motion keeping it the same distance from the surface. The more times an area is sprayed the denser the covering and the darker the effect. (If you need a darker finish, it may be better to apply a number of thin coatings rather than a single thick coat).
FINER MORE DETAILED SPRAYING
For finer work. press the button more gently to release less spray. (The harder the button is depressed the more spray is released). Hold the can closer to the surface and press the button more lightly.
VARIABLE/PATCHY SPRAYING
For variable/patchy surface covering, move the can more slowly across the surface at different speeds, slowing over areas where the spray is to be more concentrated.
GENERAL INFORMATION
If the spray is concentrated on an area for too long, too much dye may gather causing it to run. It is best to build up a denser covering by applying more layers rather than concentrating the spray on one fixed place. When Dirty Down is dry, it can leave a slight powder residue which can be rubbed to make it smudge. It is easier to smudge dry Dirty Down if it is rubber with a wetter cloth. Dirty Down dyes can be washed off certain surfaces, but in a lot of cases will cause permanent stains. Always test the spray on a small area before use. Dirty Down will change colour as it dries. The final colour is only archieved after the spray is fully dry. The colour will also change depending on the amount of spray applied. Always read the safety data sheets before use.
SFX MOULD SPRAY

USING THE MOULD SPRAY
Moulds works on all sorts of things including food stuffs -bread and fruit- stage and film props, painted walls, brickwork, masonry, concrete, bare timber and painted timber like skirtings etc. It's got a gelling agent in it that gives a lumpiness, but the gelling agent is difficult to wash out, so it's best only to use Mould on costumes that you are happy to keep mouldy. It is best to protect areas you don't want sprayed - and the floor underneath. Always test a small area first before spraying.
The cap sprays two ways: Spattery and Even Coverage
SPLATTERY
The splattery effect is best where you want to see patches of mould on small areas. Hold the spray quite close, about 200mm away and press the cap VERY, VERY lightly, just moving the can a little to direct the spatter where you want it, (if you get too much spray coming out then press it more softly).
EVEN COVERAGE
Even coverage can be used when covering Frost/Snow or when spraying over large areas. Press harder and it sprays out fast quite evenly, so it is best to hold the can about 300mm to 500mm away, moving it from side to side. Spray more to make some areas darker and patchy.
Two ways of spraying Mould: On its own or over Frost/Snow
SPRAYING ON ITS OWN
This gives a really effective texture as a splatter effect on bread, and matt painted walls but does not give the texture yhat you get with real mould.
SPRAYING OVER FROST/SNOW
Spray over the Frost/Snow gives a great textured mouldy finish. Works really well on foods and fruits, but is equally effective on props, walls, timber etc. Firstly spray the surface with a coating of Frost/Snow (it is better to make the Frost/Snow more or less even, but not too thick). Then apply one coat of Mould spray holding the can about 300mm - 500mm away depending on the size of the area sprayed. One coat should be enough, but you could spray additional patches once it has dried to create darker areas. After you have sprayed Frost/Snow, cover it fully with Mould.
SFX FROST/SNOW SPRAY

USING FROST/SNOW
Frost/Snow gives a great frost and snow effect. Press the nozzle very lightly for frost and harder for snow.
FROST EFFECT
To create a frost effect over a large surface -like a big window- hold the can 300mm to 400mm away and depress the nozzle very lightly to release the spray. To obtain an even covering, move the can in a continuous motion keeping it the same distance from the surface. The more times an area is sprayed the denser the covering an the thicker the effect. The best effect is by keeping it light.
SNOW EFFECT
To create a snow effect hold the can about 100mm away from the surface and press the nozzle hard. To obtain an even covering, move the can in a continuous motion keeping it the same distance from the surface. The more an area is sprayed the denser the covering and the thicker the effect. Keep it spraying in one spot and the snow builds up. Hold the nozzle down hard over one position for a deeper snow, you can get over 20mm depth this way and after a few hours it starts to crack like real snow. The harder the nozzle is pressed the more spray is released.
THE DETAIL
Always clear the nozzle, when you have paused or stopped using the spray by inverting the can and depressing the nozzle for one or two seconds. To remove Frost/Snow off glass, scrape away the build-up then wipe it over with a cloth and it removes quite well. Always test a small area first before spraying.
SFX RUST SPRAY

USING RUST SPRAY
Rust is a great rusty coloured Ageing Spray that gives a rusty stain on props, costumes, metals such as table legs, stainless steel cutlery, car and bicycle wheels etc. There are two ways of using Rust, on its own or on Frost/Snow.
SPRAYING ON ITS OWN
Best applied in three or more coats allowing each coat to dry before applying another. This gives a really effective rusty colour but does not give the roughness that you often get in real rust.
SPRAYING OVER FROST/SNOW
Spray over the Frost/Snow to get a rough rusty finish. First spray the surface with a coating of Frost/Snow (it is better to make this coating of Frost/Snow patchy, but not too thick - ideally you want to create a rough surface layer like rust) Then apply one or two coats of Rust spray at quite close range. If you would like it darker then apply a third coat. Always allow each coat of Rust spray to dry first before applying further coats. Add some Dirty Down Black and Ash Blonde in places if you wish to make darker and lighter patches like real rust -spray close up-. Spraying this way gives different shades and depths of colour. Always test a small area first before spraying. It usually just wipes off easily with a wet cloth and some Fairy washing up liquid, but always spray a sample area first just to check that the paintwork you are spraying onto does not absorb the Rust colour.
